Whole
Foods Market Maui Mall, 70 Ka'ahumanu Ave, Kahului
808-872-3310 It took them 30 years, but "big guy" Whole Foods finally
arrived on Maui (February, 2010). The Good: they support local growers,
and, therefore, the local economy. The Bad: For me, their prices. I know
that "healthy" and "expensive" often go hand in hand, but eating healthy,
if you don't "grow your own," should not be cost prohibitive. If WF were
truly "pono" (Hawai'ian
for "righteous"), they would lower their prices
some (at least 10 to 20%), and easily make up for doing so with proportionate
increases in sales volume. (sorry, this is me getting off my soap box...)
Open daily 8am-9pm.
.
Fresh
Mint 115 Baldwin Ave., Pa'ia 808-579-9144

noodle. Open daily 11am-9pm (Best to call ahead...)
.
Joy's
Place
1993 S. Kihei Rd, Kihei (in the Island Surf Building, entrance around the
corner on Auhana St.) 808-879-9258 Excerpted from a Frommer's
Review: "If you're in Kihei and are looking for a
healthy, delicious lunch at a rock bottom price, it's worth hunting around
for Joy's Place. This tiny hole in the wall has humongous sandwiches (turkey
and avocado or tuna salad), wheat free wraps, fresh salads, hot items (falafel
burger or the veggie burger), soups and desserts. Most items are from organic
sources. While there is (limited) indoor seating, an oceanfront park -
with picnic tables - is less than a block away." Open
Mon-Sat 10am-5pm.
.
Market
Fresh Bistro In the courtyard

Mama

.Also
consider the following "healthy dining"
establishments . . .
A.K.'s
Café in Wailuku. Healthy food
at
"prices (that) are so eye popping cheap!"
Mala,
in Lahaina and Wailea - Two words: "innovative"
and "hip" - what more can we
say?
Las
Piñatas in Kahului serves a very good Vegan burrito (our
favorite Mexican restaurant...)
Stella
Blues Café (a fave of ours in Kihei) offers a good
selection of yummy vegetarian entrées.
WokStar International
Noodle Café @ 1913 S. Kihei Rd. in central Kihei Town.
"Outstanding!"
Most island Chinese, Thai & Vietnamese
restaurants also serve a nice variety of appetizing vegetarian dishes.
